Our nation’s wine countries are home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the United States. Sipping wine is a lovely past-time, but can only be truly enjoyed if you have the time to visit the source. Here are a few of the best places in the U.S. to visit for a weekend of wine tasting and romance.
California’s Mendocino County
Grapes for wine production were first planted in Mendocino County back in the 1850’s. The business of wine-making became the second choice for miners who failed to become rich during the gold rush. Visit Medocino County to tour the beautiful wineries, including the Parducci Wine Cellars and Fetzer Vineyards, but don’t forget to take in the breathtaking landscape. Ten Mile Beach is home to some lovely horse trails and the Mendocino village is home to comforting weekend getaways complete with meals, wine samples, and tours of the countryside.
The Blue Ridge Mountains
Wines were first produced in Virginia over 400 years ago and the state is now home to over 100 wineries. Twelve of these wineries are located along the Blue Ridge Mountain trails. The Blue Ridge Mountain wineries, such as Gadino Cellars, offer tours, picnics, complementary beverages, and close proximity to historical tourist attractions.
Finger Lakin’ Good
Located in upstate New York, the Keuka, Seneca, and Cayuga lakes are home to some of the finest weekend getaways in the country. The beautiful hillsides, carved throughout history by the waters of the lakes, are the perfect for growing wine-grapes. The Seneca Wine Trail is home to over 30 unique wineries, while the Keuka Wine Trail is home to eight lovely wineries. The Napa Valley
The Napa Valley is certainly popular amongst wine connoisseurs. Tourists love exploring the valley on bike, as the area offers over 20 miles of dedicated bicycle terrain. Sonoma County
