7 Stunning Travel-Style Hangover Cures

posted in: Guides  |  posted by: Jennifer Gregory on January 26, 2009  |  1 Comment

After a holiday season jam-packed with parties and, inevitably, a few too many drinks, quite a few people head into January and look towards the rest of the winter with a bit of disappointment, depression and (depending on how hard they partied) a relatively beat up body. We’ve overeaten, lost hours of sleep, and have pushed our bodies to the limit.

Massage & Spa

In Europe, the cure for the damage done by partying too hard is a day in the spa. It seems like they’re on the right track, too. A spa getaway can do a lot to get you back on a nutritious eating schedule while rehydrating your dried out skin. When you emerge from your spa getaway you’ll feel like a brand new person, and that’s the way you should feel as you trudge through the winter months and head into spring. So where are our favorite hangover-cure spas?

7. Hawaii Healing Ohana

Relax on Big Island

Hawaii Healing Ohana is on the Big Island and works hard to make spa treatments available to all sorts of party goers. The spa, located in the Ali’I Sunset Plaza, is easy to find and once you’re there you won’t be disappointed.

Their signature treatment is a hot stone massage using lava stones pulled from their own rivers. The massage, otherwise referred to as Pohaka Wela, promises to relax your muscles, refresh your skin, and leave you feeling completely rejuvenated.

6. The Tides South Beach

Tides Hotel

In Miami Florida you’ll stumble upon The Tides South Beach. The spa is small (or at least makes you feel as though it is) and caters specifically to each individual who walks through the door.

Customers are encouraged to choose whatever treatments they desire from a menu of options. Enjoy a soothing massage or relax in a hot tub while gazing out your private oceanfront windows. Life is simple here.

5. Vida Spa

At the Pan Pacific Hotel in Seattle Washington you’ll find the Vida Spa. The treatments here are based on Ayurvedic philosophies and promise to transform you from a worn out rag doll to a stunning fashionista.

Sweat out the remaining party toxins in a steam cabinet before settling in for a massage that it is guaranteed to leave your body screaming for more. Your aching muscles and tired joints will thank you!

4. Mayflower

Mayflower Spa

Up in Washington, Connecticut you’ll find the Mayflower spa. The spa is actually a 58-acre estate that provides pampering services to those looking to enjoy a private retreat.

This isn’t necessarily the spa to visit if you’re adverse to chilling temperatures, but inside the spa you’ll enjoy relaxing in a luxurious whirlpool before taking advantage of the myriad of services the Mayflower has to offer. Grab a cocktail, sit back, and enjoy your healing journey.

3. Riviera Resort & Spa

The plush Riviera Resort & Spa in Palm Springs California is the ultimate destination for those interested in alternative treatments. Not only will you enjoy traditional spa services, but you’ll have the opportunity to try out a few luxury treatments as well. The Thai Herbal treatment uses a hot poultice full of soothing herbs to relax your aching muscles while the Cleopatra Milk Ritual offers two hours of soaks and massages using milk based products designed to truly awaken your skin.

Perhaps the kids partied a bit too hard this year as well? The spa at the Riviera Resort has an entire menu of options catering to the under-18 crowd. These shortened treatments encourage young ones to appreciate their bodies while learning about the importance of balance. They can, of course, skip the massages and head straight on over to the salon for a pedicure.

2. Malibu Beach Inn

If you’re looking to add a little bit of excitement to your spa getaway you should consider a stay at the Malibu Beach Inn in Malibu California. The inn is a hot destination for celebrities looking to relax and get away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.

Relaxing at Malibu

There is one catch. There’s not actually a spa here. The Malibu Beach Inn, however, is one of the most secluded places you’ll ever visit, so finding a place to relax on the beach while soaking in some natural sunlight won’t be difficult. If you’re really aching for a massage, ask the front desk to recommend a local therapist. Many will bring their table right to you!

1. InterContinental MonteLucia Resort & Spa

The InterContinental MonteLucia Resort & Spa is located in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Leave your cell phone at home (it’s not allowed in the spa anyway) and prepare to indulge in a series of treatments designed to help even the most worn out bodies recover in style.

The Joya Spa at MonteLucia offers a host of incredible body treatments. After spending an hour with a therapist on whatever treatment you choose, you’ll have access to the entire spa for the rest of the day. Spa amenities include relaxing fitness classes, a whirlpool, the spectacular sauna, and more!

Your body will thank you for the opportunity to recover after a hard holiday season or cold winter. Treat yourself to the relaxation and recovery you deserve!
