What were once private passions between consenting adults has become a growing, multi-million dollar business. While swingers had to indulge their lifestyle behind closed doors and drawn blinds in a strictly hush-hush environment they now can spend their money openly at establishments created specifically for them. Conventions, clubs, and hotels are located throughout the world that caters to this type of clientele. The average swinging couple spends thousands of dollars attending these functions that cater to their lifestyle requirements.
Hedonism
Some of the more famous resorts catering to swingers are Hedonism in Jamaica and “the Naked City” – Cap d’Agde – in France. Hedonism is the shared name of two all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica, Hedonism II – opened in 1976 in Negril, and Hedonism III – opened in 1999 in Ocho Rios. A quick look at the Hedonism web site details when the swinger conventions occur. Swingers are repeat customers; this fact is well established at the Hedonism resorts which collectively claim the highest patron repeat rate of any hotel in the world. And Hedonism is always seeking new customers – day passes to the grounds can be had for less than $100. Don’t bring the kids, they aren’t allowed.
Cap d’Agde
Cap d’Agde caters to the swinger crowd by bringing 40,000 nudists together in a fully-functioning city. Cap d’Agde started out as a family-oriented nudist resort but swinging couples descended upon the French town on the Mediterranean in the 1990s. Children are still allowed here and rules are enforced in public areas during daytime hours in order to protect them. However, clothing is optional throughout here and lifestyle-seekers can shop and stroll about town completely nude. Swinger clubs are located throughout the city and pleasure-seekers from throughout Europe flock there annually every summer. This kind of lifestyle has surged with younger generations and the clubs here see more and more patrons every year.
Lifestyles Organization
A company based in Anaheim, California that caters to the swinger lifestyle called Lifestyles Organization, sees growth in revenue every year; reaching $15 million in 2006. Connecting with other like-minded couples while keeping their passions secret from conventional acquaintances is important to the swinging lifestyle. That’s what keeps Lifestyles Organization a thriving business. These connections can be difficult for many couples, especially those hailing from locales that would never accept such a lifestyle. They specialize in making these connections for lifestylers by organizing tours and conventions and functioning as a travel agency for swinging couples. Last year a whole hotel in Las Vegas was contracted for a swinger convention. Basic registration to the club costs $690.
Desire Resort
Desire Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico is a recent entry into the swinger market. It opened in November, 2006 and focuses on the swinging market. Desire resorts is much like the Hedonism establishments, but taken a step further. No children are allowed and neither are singles. The hotel caters strictly to couples. Not all patrons participate in the lifestyle, but over half do. The resort was designed from the ground up for the swinging lifestyle, or as the hotel terms it, the “clothing-optional devotees.”
Besides the big clubs and party organizers catering to swingers, lifestylers can participate on a local level. Party organizers will promote their functions on the Internet and charge a fee for attendance. Sometimes these parties may be the only functions around serving a specific locale and the host enjoys an astounding success. Oftentimes, party goers are turned away at the door because too many people showed up. Singles wanting to attend will have to check ahead of time and can expect to pay extra.
With the swinging market emerging from behind closed doors and drawn blinds, popularity can expect to grow even more. The participating couples are willing to spend the money to seek out establishments that cater to their lifestyles. This market has just begun to be tapped and more like-minded resorts are expected to open in the near future.
