The mere mention of a ski chalet brings a warming sensation. Ski lovers immediately turn their minds to cozy shacks where they can toss off their gear, grab a cup of hot chocolate, and warm up by the fire after a long day on the slopes. There are, however, a few resorts where the idea of a simple ski chalet merely wasn’t enough. These luxurious chalets leave nothing to the imagination – taking the experience perhaps a bit over the top!
SKI Dream Home – Deer Valley, Utah
The SKI Dream Home in Deer Valley, Utah is not for the faint at heart. Picture Versailles mixed with the contemporary flair of New York City and you might have a small inkling as to just how extravagant this place can be.
The Dream Home itself spans over 14,000 incredible square feet of land. There are only six bedrooms, but there are 10 bathrooms and well over a dozen sparkling fireplaces. The 550-gallon aquarium stocked with fresh river trout seems a bit over the top, but the golf simulator and ski lounge promise fun an entertainment when it’s time to relax for the evening.
Other amenities include a gourmet kitchen, a “chill room” complete with a DJ Booth and dance floor, a theatre room, a workout room, a day spa (for people and for dogs), and two incredible wine cellars. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? Prepare to break the bank – a stay here will cost you no less than $13,500 per night!
Tyrolean Chalet – Vail, Colorado
The Tyrolean Chalet was once the home of the renowned Tyrolean Restaurant. It was later redeveloped and remodeled to be one of the most exclusive private ski resort destinations in the country. Not far from Vail Village, the resort has served as a home away from home for dozens of Middle Eastern royalty members as well as A-list stars.
The chalet is situated on the edge of Gore Creek and features four bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a commercial grade kitchen with a gorgeous and spacious dining area. You’ll find Jacuzzi tubs, plasma televisions, Dutch windows and wireless internet throughout the entire chalet.
If that isn’t enough, try out the media room, featuring enough comfortable seats for 10 viewers to watch whatever you choose to play on the projection screen. There’s also a game room, wireless internet, and a desktop computer for your use. For a romantic evening, relax in privacy in the outdoor hot tub. The chalet is in demand year round, with prices ranging from $2,585 up to $7,760 depending on the time of year you visit.
North Colter Lodge – Jackson Hole, WY
Nestled in the hills of Jackson Hole, Wyoming is the incredible North Colter Lodge. Built in 2001, the lodge features a warm and inviting Wild West atmosphere that even the busiest city-slicker can learn to appreciate.
The 6,300-square foot lodge is decorated with incredible Native American artwork while at the same time featuring the best modern amenities available. The lodge houses 5 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms and can sleep up to 12 people at a time. The rooms feature ensuite baths and saunas, while the media room is complete with a DVD player and a stereo system with speakers wired throughout the entire lodge.
Relax in luxury in the astounding living room while gazing out the enormous picture windows at the mountains and valley beyond. Don’t be surprised if you see a moose or some other friendly visitors outside as you enjoy nature while lounging by the fire. A stay at North Colter Lodge will range from approximately $1,400 to $2,600 per night.
Chalet Septieme Ciel – Verbier, Switzerland
The Chalet Septieme Ciel, located to the side of the Verbier ski resort, is one of the most luxurious (albeit flashy) ski chalets in existence. You won’t be surprised to learn that Septieme Ciel translates from French to “Seventh Heaven.”
With six enormous bedrooms, each with its own bath and shower room, the chalet can house up to 12 people at a time. The media room, outdoor hot tub, and game room may not seem spectacular compared to the other chalets we’ve visited, but there are a few other amenities to keep in mind. Take, for example, your private chef, the manned massage room, and the full stocked wine cellar.
Your private chauffer will be ready and waiting at all times to take you wherever you wish to go, and your chalet hosts will always be on hand to clean or serve your meals. The chalet is rented weekly, at a cool $33,000 to $74,000 depending on the time of year.
Ski lovers deserve to relax in luxury just like anyone else. After an invigorating day on the slopes, who wouldn’t want to relax in a private hot tub in the mountains of Colorado or Switzerland? We know we would!
