Five Pampering Retreats for Women

posted in: Guides  |  posted by: Jennifer Gregory on January 20, 2009  |  3 Comments

Women from around the globe are becoming more and more curious about the world around them. Some want to travel, others want to learn to speak a foreign tongue, and still others would like to have an adventurous experience with a group of friends.

What most women don’t understand, however, is that it’s perfectly acceptable to pack your bags and hit the road with your girlfriends, leaving those husbands, boyfriends and sometimes – yes, sometimes – even the children behind. Whether you’re looking to get in touch with your inner spirit or simply have a little fun in a strange place, there are plenty of health, wellness, and adventurous retreats designed specifically for women.

5. Spiritual Journeys in Sedona and the Grand Canyon

Sedona Arizona

A group called Gutsy Women Travel has put together a stunning vacation package for women, including visits in the Grand Canyon, the Red Rocks, and Sedona. Your spiritual trip begins in Las Vegas but quickly sweeps you away and will redeposit you in a series of serene destinations.

Grand Canyon

You trip includes time with personal life coaches, yoga sessions, Reiki sessions, and even a saging ceremony. An American Indian guide will teach you about folklore and you’ll have the opportunity to tour the mystical vortices of the earth in Sedona.

This trip isn’t cheap. At $2,299 per person you’ll still have to find your own airfare, but you will always have a place to sleep, you’ll never go hungry, and all of your extracurricular activities are included.

4. Yoga and Eco Wellness Tours throughout Costa Rica

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of the most visited countries in Central America, but that doesn’t mean a group of women can’t find a place to relax and unwind. The folks at Lux World Travel in Rochester, NY specialize in offering wellness retreats for women. They attempt to combine meditation and yoga classes with outings that are earth friendly.

Costa Rica

You’ll spend seven nights at an environmentally friendly boutique hotel, starting each morning with a yoga class and ending each evening with a meditation session. During the day you have the option to head out on an adventure tour, whether your idea of adventure includes horseback riding, surfing, or any number of spectacular choices. If heading out into the jungle isn’t your thing you might enjoy spa therapies or even nutritional consultations. It’s all about you in Costa Rico.

3. Asheville Girls Relaxation Getaway

Asheville North Carolina

Asheville, North Carolina is a mountain town that gives places like Half Moon Bay, California or Boulder, Colorado a run for their money. Nature lovers from all over the world flock to the Asheville – a place where women feel comfortable bonding with friends or pampering their bodies.

Asheville NC

The Ashville Girls Relaxation Getaway is great for east coast girls looking for a simple weekend retreat. You’ll spend two nights in either a cabin or a bed and breakfast. Each day includes beauty treatments designed to leave you feeling like you’ve never felt before, including massages, reflexology treatments, and luxurious body wraps.

2. Chi Wellness Clinic

Asheville

Not everyone is into spa treatments. Some women prefer learning more towards Eastern medicine when it comes to meeting their health and wellness needs. Luckily, Asheville, North Carolina is home to the Chi Wellness Clinic as well. It’s here that you’ll get to focus on your inner spirit while relaxing in a serene and happy atmosphere designed for healing.

Asheville NC

Stretching, breathing, meditation, tea ceremonies, and even gardening are all on the agenda at the Chi Wellness Clinic. Visitors will learn how to battle fatigue and even lose weight by paying attention to their inner most bodies. Take a deep breath and imagine yourself on the gigantic organic farm and you’ll be well on your way to serenity.

1. Christmas Markets on the Danube River

Christmas Market

Some women love spas, some love meditation and – let’s face it – other’s just want to shop. Get together a group of girls and head back on over to Gutsy Women Travel where they specialize in putting together trips designed for women who love shopping. It’s like a dream come true!

Christmas Markets

Our favorite was the 9 day trip down the Danube River, cruising from Regensburg to Vienna to explore the Christmas Markets. You’ll cruise through Austria and Germany and learn about holiday traditions in different countries, all while participating in your favorite sport. Ready, set, shop!

There are hundreds of opportunities for women to get away from it all, whether that means traveling with a group of friends or arranging for a trip on your own. Spend some time in a spa, get in touch with your inner self, part ways with your wallet, or learn about a far away land you’ve always wanted to visit. Your wish is your travel agent’s desire and there’s no shortage of spectacular places ready and willing to cater to the female whim. Enjoy!

All of these retreats look wonderful! I know I could certainly use one, especially when most of these are in nice warm locations and we’ve had nothing but cold ice and snow the last few weeks! If only I had the time to take off to Costa Rica for a week…or maybe three… :)
