Everyone has to go to the bathroom at one time or another, and not everyone is fortunate enough to find themselves safely situated in his or her personal bathroom when nature calls. The need to go is urgent and demands respect, but the facilities available often leave much to be desired.
Some incredibly creative (or disturbed - we haven’t decided yet) architects took the time to design a few of the nicest, and at the same time oddest, bathrooms you’re going to find anywhere in the world. In fact they are so incredible you might want to seek one out the next time you feel the urge!
Lam Sai Wing’s Golden Bathroom
Lam Sai Wing owns a jewelry store in Hong Kong, China. After it became successful he took inspiration he received from Vladimir Lenin and built a bathroom made completely of gold. You name it and if it’s in the bathroom, it’s made of gold. Don’t plan on simply dropping by to see this toilet - you have to spend at least $200 on jewelry before being granted access!
Club Sugar
The restroom at Club Sugar in Santa Monica, California gives peeping a whole new meaning. The restroom doors are intentionally unmarked, so visitors are left to figure out which bathroom belongs to whom. There’s a fish tank on the wall between the two rooms, providing a window through which to view the opposite sex. The bathroom was also built with a genuine peephole over the counter. Don’t pee here if you aren’t comfortable with an audience!
Maximus Salon and Day Spa
The Maximus Salon and Day Spa in New York City provides patrons with a high-tech potty option you have to see to believe. Simply press a button for front or rear cleaning and drying. The seat is heated and actually massages your glutes while you do your business. The toilet has a name - the Toto Jasmine Washlet - and can be purchased for a mere $1,200 if you really want to have one at home.
The News Room
Located in Minneapolis, The News Room has a bathroom featuring - well - the news. The walls of the bathroom and stalls are lined with large prints of top news stories. You could easily find yourself lost in the bathroom, completely unaware of how much time has passed before emerging! Most reviews we’ve seen say the restaurant has terrible service, though, so visit at your own risk.
The Madonna Inn
The Madonna Inn can be found in Luis Obispo, California. The hotel itself includes rooms decorated with amazing themes, including Swiss chalets or safari adventures. The most icredible feature is the public men’s room. It comes complete with a gigantic waterfall that runs down the rock wall and “flushes” when it senses movement in the room. While it’s not for the ladies, it’s not unheard of for them to take a quick peek at the action!
M-1 Highway in Switzerland
The rest stop on the M-1 Highway in Switzerland is home to one of the best bathrooms you’ll find on the road, which should make anyone wary of rest stop toilets very happy. The rest stop houses the cleanest bathrooms anywhere - they’re scrubbed once every hour!
The John Michael Kohler Arts Center
Don’t you hate visiting a museum only to find you have to waste your precious time on a trip to the bathroom? At the John Michael Kohler Arts Center a trip to the rest room only means you’re walking into a new exhibit. Six of the bathrooms in the center, located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, were designed as art pieces themselves.
Mandalay Bay Resort’s China Grill Restaurant
Las Vegas has certainly earned its “Sin City” nickname. The bathroom at the Mandalay Bay Resort’s China Grill Restaurant is a unisex experience. The stalls are private, but feature opaque glass stalls that allow visitors to ogle each others shadows between flirting glances at those who enter and exit the stalls. A trip to this bathroom will leave you feeling strange, yet sexy all at the same time.
Sloan’s Ice Cream Parlor
Sloan’s Ice Cream Parlor, in various locations throughout Florida, has a bathroom that actually leaves me feeling a little bit nervous. The walls are clear glass and allow visitors to look out into the parlor, but the glass will fog up when the door handles are turned and locked. As long as the door is locked the glass will remain opaque. Something tells me a malfunction in the electrical currents there could be just a tad bit embarrassing!
These bathrooms leave visitors wondering how and why they were created, while at the same time leaving a sense of intrigue and mystery in the air. Be sure to check them out if you’re ever nearby!
