The World’s Most Expensive Castles For Sale Part II

posted in: World  |  posted by: Jennifer Gregory on July 13, 2008  |  1 Comment

If the first set of castles we discovered for sale wasn’t enough, wait until you see this next batch! While they still rank amongst the most expensive castles for sale, they are considerably lower in price than the older castles, posing greater opportunities for those who might not otherwise be able to live a fairytale life. A few are even closer in price to some of today’s modern mansions and homes!

Cote de Vichy Castle – France

Cote de Vichy Castle

A newer castle compared to most, the 130 year old A cote de Vichy was restored not as a private residence but as a hotel and restaurant. The castle grounds are amazing, including a horse barn, swimming pool, tennis courts, helicopter landings, and beautifully maintained gardens. The new owner of this castle can choose to keep it as a private residence or allow for its use as a hotel. The castle can also be used as a health center, retirement home, conference center, or as a tourist attraction. The land itself is home to three caves that have not yet been opened to the public, so the sky is the limit with not only the castle but the land as well.

Approximate asking price: $9,000,000

Castle Matzen – Reith im Alpbachtal, Australia

Castle Matzen

One of the oldest on our list, the Castle Matzen was built in the middle of the thirteenth century and has remained standing ever since. The castle spans over 20,000 square feet and boasts more than 60 lavish rooms. If the age of the castle doesn’t interest you, take note of the expansive list of owners and visitors to Castle Matzen. Even the United States President Theodore Roosevelt visited once or twice as a guest on a hunting excursion! You would think the age and fame of this castle would warrant a higher asking price, but it is actually on the lower end of the real estate spectrum (as far as castles go, that is)!

Approximate asking price: $3,800,000

Kataryna Castle – Sandpoint, Idaho

Kataryna Castle in Idaho

When I think of Idaho, I think of potatoes, not castles. Kataryna Castle was completed in 1999, built of stone that was taken from quarries in British Columbia. The owner named the castle after his young daughter after her birth in 2000. The castle includes double walls and takes up a half acre of land. The building itself is four stories and totals 3, 600 square feet of living space. It’s a dream come true for any castle lover and includes amazing views of both Lake Pend Orielle and Schweitzer Mountain.

Approximate asking price: $2,250,000

Eagle Lake, California

Eagle Lake Castle

In the northern section of California you’ll find an amazing castle situated in Eagle Lake. The castle lies between Lake Tahoe and the amazing Klamath Falls, leaving the residents with both privacy and an incredible view. The castle was built recently and was only completed in 1998, but the outer walls are layered in stones that give it the appearance of a mid-evil castle. Complete with all of the modern amenities you would expect, the castle boasts 7,000 square feet of space, a 2,000 square foot outbuilding, and a beach. The mysterious and adventurous will appreciate the three secret passageways – but I can’t tell you where they are or where they’ll take you. You’ll have to buy the castle to find out!

Approximate asking price: Not listed publicly.

Solomon’s Castle

Solomon\'s Castle

Deep in the heart of Florida you’ll come across Solomon’s Castle. The castle was built by a well known artist by the name of Howard Solomon. The kitchen is large enough to be used as a restaurant and the dining room itself was designed to hold over 5 dozen guests! Complete with a moat, the castle includes separate houses for your resident staff or your out of town guests. The property lies on approximately 70 acres of land complete with a flowing creek. This is the perfect home for a horse lover as the property includes stables. If the new owner doesn’t want to maintain a private residence, the 5 bedroom castle would make an incredible bed and breakfast, complete with romantic nature trails and camping grounds.

Approximate asking price: $2,500,000

Weiler Castle – Bessenbach-Keilberg, Germany

Weiler castle

The Weiler Castle was originally built towards the end of the 17th century as the home of the Count of Schnborn-Wiesentheid. His ancestors purchased the property in the mid-1960’s and are known for restoring the castle to what it is today. The original castle was protected by an active moat which still surrounds the property but is now dry. The family later sold the castle and it has been owned privately for the past few years. The castle has undergone extensive renovations and includes a separate house for the caretaker, a large garage, a tennis court, and an indoor swimming pool.

Approximate asking price: $7,000,000

There are dozens of castles for sale around the world, and they’re not difficult to find. If you didn’t see one you liked listed in this series, contacting one of the real estate agents specializing in the sale of castles will yield quick results. Don’t let your family convince you that it’s crazy – a castle is an incredible and reasonable choice for a home!
