The island is jam packed with resort hotels, recreational activities, and white sandy beaches. Cebu is a favorite destination for those looking to relax in between water sports. 9. Palawan, Philippines
Also located in the Philippines, the island strip known as Palawan is divided into nine distinct sections, each with its own set of resorts, diving spots, restaurants, and attractions. The Calamian deer, Palawan peacock, and a number of other creatures are awaiting your arrival.
8. Borneo, Malaysia
Borneo is an exotic island destination in Malaysia and is the third largest island in the entire world. When you’re not sunbathing on the island’s white sandy beaches you’ll enjoy exploring Mount Kinabalu, southeast Asia’s tallest mountain, or the Danum Valley Rain Forest, where mother nature reigns true. The forest is the home to the famous Borneo Rainforest Lodge which watches over the Segama River – a spectacular destination for a secluded island vacation.
7. Langkawi, Malaysia
The clear blue waters surrounding Lakgkawi are only the beginning. The climate here is perfect for the avid beach goer year round, despite a bit of humidity. When you’re not basking in the sun you’ll enjoy Langkawi’s numerous shopping opportunities, tourist attractions such as the Seven Wells and the Hot Springs, and the spectacular dance clubs that set the stage for the area’s hot night life.
6. Maldives
The islands at Maldives are certainly welcoming to visitors and tourists. The government automatically grants a free 30 day visa to all visitors upon arrival. Spectacular luxury resorts are scattered around the islands and when you’re not lounging on the beaches you’ll certainly enjoy diving, snorkeling, surfing, fishing, and the myriad of water sports made available to visitors everywhere you turn.
5. Bonaire, Caribbean
Bon Bini! That’s the way you’ll be greeted when you arrive on the island of Bonaire, a spectacular island destination in the Dutch Caribbean. The island is small, but plays a huge role in the preservation of the environment. Days spent windsurfing, kayaking, or mountain biking will be followed by evenings strolling the warm beaches or relaxing in some of the island’s best resort restaurants. Most people who visit Bonaire remark at how laid back and friendly the people are – and many wish they didn’t have to leave.
4. Azores
The Azores islands are located in the Azorean archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean. They’re considered the most isolated set of islands in the area, resulting in a lack of traffic that is a major contributor to the lush vegetation and spectacular wildlife that remains today. The climate is warm, yet humid, and the beaches, lakes, waterfalls, and even volcanoes are welcoming. Activities include whale watching, spectacular sea tours, and even radical sporting events like rappel and cascading (if you dare).
3. Phuket, Thailand
The island of Phuket is one of the most spectacular destinations in all of Thailand. Far enough removed from the mainland to provide a sense of serenity, the island is home to a series of popular resort hotels and beaches while remaining within a short boat-ride’s distance to the surrounding islands. Make sure you study the culture of Thailand before you go, especially as it pertains to respecting the monarchy, religion, and the dress code. Otherwise, you’ll have a spectacular stay on the island.
2. Fraser Island, Australia
Fraser Island in Australia is an incredibly beautiful place with tons to see and do, but it’s not for the faint of heart. The island lacks the luxurious amenities you’ve come to expect on an island vacation, but what it lacks in luxury it makes up for in adventure. The island has over 75 miles of spectacular beaches frequently explored by four wheelers and fisherman. Make sure you get a permit before taking your vehicle over to the island. Otherwise, enjoy camping, fishing, and exploring the amazing coral reefs.
1. Santorini, Greece
Santorini may not be a tropical island paradise, but the spectacular rock formations, beaches, restaurants, and attractions make this vacation destination second to none.
