10 Incredibly Expensive Hamburgers

posted in: Food  |  posted by: Jennifer Gregory on August 4, 2009  |  3 Comments

Hamburgers are an incredibly popular barbecue favorite during the summer months but, in reality, we all know they never lose their allure and are offered on menus year round.

8. classic beef cheese burger with italian bacon (6oz)

A few restaurants have taken our love of a good beef patty a step further, creating decadent entrees that are both interesting and mouth watering. Sadly, they’re also incredibly expensive.

10. Kobe Beef Cheese Burger with Mushrooms and Bacon – $21.75

Take a trip out to Taste in West Hollywood, California for a real bargain. This incredible Kobe beef burger, topped with Gorgonzola, sautéed mushrooms, bacon, and onion jam, is an area favorite. Sure, $21.75 is a lot to pay for a burger, but this one’s a real steal.

9. Hamburger – $22

At Spago in Beverly Hills, California you’ll be presented with one of Wolfgang Puck’s incredible menus.  During lunch hours you’ll see the simple “Hamburger” on the menu – a mouthwatering burger with cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and garlic aioli. Wolfgang Puck is a huge hamburger fan so you can be assured this is one of the best.

8. Kobe Sliders – $28

The menu at The Continental in Atlantic City certainly features a few high-end deviations from the norm. A favorite is the six-pack of Kobe sliders with Russian dressing, onions, and Swiss cheese. Considering they’re made with Kobe beef, the six-pack for $28 really isn’t such a bad deal.

7. ‘21′ Burger – $30

21 Club

The restaurant known as 21 in New York City is proud of its signature dish, the 21 Burger. While it’s now a bit more expensive than it used to be (originally $21), it’s still a huge hit amongst diners. What makes it special? The distinct flavor probably has something to do with the duck fat, marjoram, and thyme included in the recipe.  The roasted tomatoes, onions, and potato served on the side are nice, too.

6. Rossini Burger – $60

BURGER BAR!

The Burger Bar in Las Vegas is a pretty casual hangout. One look at the menu, though, and you’ll know something’s up. The Rossini Burger, owner Hubert Keller’s creation, features a Kobe burger smothered in sautéed truffles and foie gras sandwiched between a sinfully delicious onion bun.

5. Grand Burger $100

The Grand Burger from McGuire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola, Florida is a bit fancier than you’d expect to find in this traditional bar establishment. The $100 burger is made out of freshly ground filet mignon but it’s the toppings that make it special. Sure, you have your standard lettuce, tomato, and onions – but have you ever added caviar? This decadent burger is also served with Moet & Chandon White Star Champagne.

4. Burger Double Truffle – $150

Daniel Boulud, the owner of DB Bisto Moderne in New York City, has had a few interesting hamburger ideas. His first creation was a burger stuffed with foie gras, short ribs, and truffles. The most expensive hamburger on the menu, the Burger Double Truffle features a stuffed burger topped with an astounding 20 grams of black truffle.

3. Richard Nouveau Burger – $175

Wall Street Burger Shoppe

We’re actually surprised this burger doesn’t cost more than it does. The Wall Street Burger Shoppe in New York City serves the Richard Nouveau Burger. It’s a Prime Kobe beef patty smothered with foie gras, black truffles, and gold flakes (yes, you read that correctly). The mayo used on the burger is blended with more black truffles and gold flakes as well.

2. Absolutely Ridiculous Burger – $499

Mallie's Sports Bar

We’re not sure why the folks at Mallie’s Sports Bar in Southgate, Michigan thought this burger was a good idea but it contains 150 pounds of beef and you must give the bar 72 hours notice if you plan to come in and order it. If you and your clan of 30 or less can finish the burger together in under one hour you won’t have to pay for it. Think about it carefully, though – that’s still 5 lbs of beef per person.

1. Kobe Beef and Maine Lobster Burgers – $777

Le Burger Brasseire

Served at Le Burger Brasserie in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Kobe Beef and Maine Lobster Burger consists of a large Kobe burger patty topped with chunks of lobster. The entire creation is then smothered with brie cheese, prosciutto, caramelized onions, and a balsamic dressing. It’s definitely got a unique taste. Don’t feel bad about the price – the burger comes with a “complimentary” bottle of Dom Perignon Rose.

Like it or not, despite their price tags these are some of the best hamburgers in the world. This list is certainly not all-inclusive but you get the jist. Sort of puts the inflated price of ground beef this summer into perspective, doesn’t it?
