In the heart of Argentina lies the city of Buenos Aires. One of the most popular destinations in all of Latin America, it is here that you’ll find people with a passion for life rivaled by no other. There’s something for everyone in Buenos Aires, whether you’re in town to explore local culture, to learn to tango, to observe a sporting event, or merely on business.

When to Visit Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is south of the equator, which means the seasons are opposite those we experience in the United States. Winter occurs between July and September and the weather is relatively cold and rainy, though never freezing. The dead of summer is usually very uncomfortable, with dangerously high midday temperatures followed by nicer evenings.

The best time to visit, however, would be during the spring months of September through December or during the fall, which runs from April through June. The temperatures during those months are fantastic and comfortable, bad weather is minimal, and the countryside is absolutely breathtaking.

Where to Eat in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, as well as most international cities, features an eclectic mix of cuisine ranging from Argentine to American, French, Japanese, Mediterranean, and more. There are a number of incredible restaurant choices that fall within a number of different price ranges, so no one should have difficulty finding a great place to dine.

Bar Dorrego

One of our favorite and less expensive destinations is the in the San Telmo section of the city. They serve incredible coffee, alcoholic beverages, and snack type foods.

Cafe Dorrego

For a step up in both ambiance and price you should check out Desde El Alma. Desde El Alma is tucked deep in the Palermo Soho section of Buenos Aires and serves authentic Argentine cuisine. Favorite dishes include sesame-crusted salmon or the leek quiche. The food is delicious and the service is wonderful.

Buenos Aires Street Food

If you’re looking for a really fancy night out on the town we recommend you head on over to the Crystal Garden. The restaurant is located in the Hotel Park Tower and provides stunning romantic views of the Retiro. They serve authentic Argentine cuisine here as well, and while it’s considered by many to be overpriced it’s still well worth the trip. If you’re feeling stingy but want to see the view, stop by during the happy hour between 7pm and 10pm. You’ll have to pay for drinks but the buffet and view are free.

The Sights of Buenos Aires

Caminito

While eating is important for survival, you’ll obviously want to see some of the incredible sights in Buenos Aires as well. If you’re in the La Boca section of the city you’ll want to visit Calle Museo Caminito. The outdoor bazaar features artists, tango dancers in a delightful rendition of art museum meets out door flea market. Take in a few performances, check out the mosaics on the building walls behind the stalls, and enjoy a glimpse of El Caminito.

The Jardin Zoologico is in the Palermo section of Buenos Aires. Built in 1874, the 45-acre zoo houses not only your traditional lions, tigers, bears, and birds but a few surprises as well. Do not leave the zoo without stopping to see the albino tiger and make sure the indigenous monkeys aren’t participating in lewd adult activity before you let your children take a peek!

Buque Museo Corbeta Uruguay

In Puerto Madero you’ll find the museum known as the Buque Museo Corbeta Uruguay. Ok, it’s not really a museum as much as it is a ship, but it was purchased from England back in 1874 and is considered the oldest in the Argentine fleet. This ship has traveled around the world more than a few times and is a historic site worth visiting.

Museo de Evita

Museo Evita can be found in Palermo and is another excellent site to include on your itinerary. No, you will not find Madonna here nor will you find any reference to her performance in the hit movie. You will, however, find a collection of solid historic facts about the wife of president Juan Domingo Peron, commonly referred to as Evita, including how much she was loved by the working-class and hated by the upper-class. The museum includes stunning footage of a few of her speeches as well as a delightful caf? where you can relax after taking in this nugget of history.

There are dozens of incredible sights, restaurants, and entertainment venues throughout all of Buenos Aires – there’s no way we could document them all. These are a few of our favorites and we offer them in the hopes that they’ll lead you to other incredible destinations and combine to leave you with a trip you’ll always remember. Relax and enjoy the beautiful architecture, culture, and cuisine!

Buenos Aires is without a doubt the cosmopolitan door to Latin America. It’s a beautiful city. Also known as the “Paris of South America”. When I want to feel alive and have a great time I travel to Buenos Aires. Amazing places. Amazing people.
