Affordable River CruisesFor some, lengthy cruises either cost too much or they are not sure they can handle an entire week on a cruise ship. Before investing the money into a costly cruise, you can try a day-long river cruise for less money and see how you like it.

London, England River Cruises
London River Cruises offer a number of different packages. The short, one-hour cruises head up and down the Thames for the meager charge of $15 to $20. The $15 cruise gives access to the full-bar and provides passengers with a tour guide. The more expensive package includes sandwiches, potato chips, muffins, tea, and coffee. An alternate to this plan is to hire a four-hour charter cruise for around $400 plus up to $40 per person for a catered meal and bar service. The chartered cruises are great for special events or family reunions.

New York River Cruises
In New York, the Hudson River Cruise line offers numerous sightseeing cruises for $10 to $30 per person. There are a number of choices available and a licensed captain and his crew handle all cruises. Light snacks and bar service is offered on many of their cruises. The full list covers:

• Hudson Highlands – Three hour cruise from Haverstraw to Bannerman’s Island.
• Hudson River Adventures – Newburgh Landing to Bannerman’s Island.
• Hudson River Cruises – Rondout Landing to many of the sites from the Revolutionary War.
• North River Cruises – Rondout Landing along the North River.
• River Valley Tours – This week-long cruise travels from New York City to Albany. Definitely more costly at $1,900 per person, but when you are ready to try a full cruise, this is a good way to start.

Canadian River Cruises
Priced under $1,500 per person, St. Lawrence Cruise Lines offers cruises along the St. Lawrence Seaway or the Ottawa River. The three or six-night cruises cover all meals, sleep quarters, taxes, and tips. The five night cruise from Kingston to Ottawa stops at many cities, including Montreal. The six night Canadian Connection cruise leaves Kingston and goes all the way to Quebec City. Finally, the three-night 1,000 Island Encounter gravels from Kingston to 1,000 Islands ending up in Fort Wellington.

Mid-US River Cruises
If you have a little more money to spare, the Delta Queen travels from Cincinnati to Louisville to Madison and back to Cincinnati along the Mississippi River. This cruise starts at $1,500 per person but it takes the passenger back in time to the days of Davy Crockett while riding on a steamboat. For $2,400, you can travel from Memphis to New Orleans experiencing plantations and southern charm.
